About the event

Kantar research (published Nov, 2022) shows that people’s enjoyment of advertising has been declining steadily since the 1990s. One of the main reasons, it states, is the almost complete removal of humour from advertising, despite the fact that it remains one of the most effective forms of communication. “If you can’t make people feel something,” it says, “you’re dead.”

But while we’ve got rid of humour, we’ve kept some of the worst practices that make advertising more hated than ever. Clickbait. Dodgy statistics. Overexposure.  And, of course, a complete lack of diversity.

In this first of its kind global conversation in which we invite our panel to choose what they think are the worst aspects of the ad industry, and debate to have them ‘CANNED @ Cannes’. There can only be one winner. 

Expect lively debate with some humour. The perfect way to start your Cannes Lions.
